I backed up and dented the tire cover on my GWagon and the tire itself bent into the rear cargo door making some small dents as well.

Since I mostly city drive this and don't have a need for the extra tire, I'm open to the idea of not using it and replacing the entire rear cargo door with the 4x4 squared version which has no wheel mount.

I called the dealer and the part numbers are different so they are no help. The part numbers for the 4x4 squared version do look like they fit other non 4x4 squared vehicles as some list AMG versions and even the 2016 G550 standard version if I recall.

Has anyone swapped their rear cargo door out (with a tire mount) for the 4x4 squared version without one? If so, can you provide any details, part number, etc?

I'd grab a Vin from an Ebay or BaT listing and get it quoted via portsouq or rockauto or MB parts vendors....

I found a part number for the 4x4 squared door and the MB dealer can order it. The issue is they do not know if it will fit. They are simply looking at their computer screens telling them the part number for a specific VIN. I'm curious about fitting a 4x4 squared rear cargo door on a G550 and if anyone has done it as they are different part numbers though look like the same size.

I'll try and dig up the part numbers and share the diagrams here.

Only a diff number bc it lacks the mount. The rest will be the same.
