New to the g class world!
Just purchased a new to me 2005 g500, black on black, with 186,000 miles and have been impressed with the experience so far! From the ride over crumbling infrastructure on the eastside of Indianapolis to more rural pursuits in the countryside the g class is capable. The engine sounds and mostly performs in a healthy manner. Previous owner had dual side mounted exhaust installed and gives just enough volume to match the rugged exterior.
While the owning a g500 has been fun and a departure from traditional car ownership there are a few concerning details that accompany the highs. The Sam module appears to be on its way out (intermittent random warning lights that blip and disappear). And most concerning is the amount of oil that is being burned, on start up it’s not noticeable but as soon as the engine warms up the smell and blue smoke is nearly intolerable standing next to it.
Wanted to take some time and pick the brain of some mechanically minded members because while the engine is running there is no blow by through the dipstick tube or the oil fill cap (making it seem like the piston rings are in good condition). This leads me to believe that either the valve seals are going bad (most probable in my mind) or the EGR system is clogged and causing excess oil burn (this seems unlikely given the amount of oil being consumed). If there are any other symptoms that I can use to diagnose the issue I’d love to hear it.
Also if there are any suppliers of valve seats/seals that are reasonably priced I would appreciate a lead to those websites. Tried autohaus but they are on back order with no expectation of a restock date. Thanks for your time everyone and hope to have a healthy and reliable g class in the near future!

With 186K on the clock, you should have had the vehicle completely inspected by an indy mechanic, including a compression test, before buying. You should still have this done, but you'll be the one stuck with any repair costs. G's are classics -- when you find a high mileage used one for sale, there's a reason.
