G63 (W463) downpipes - how loud?
I am considering installing downpipes on my 2013 G63 M157. I searched and found some threads but most were very old and information seems spotty.
My goal is to improve throttle response. I am most worried about drone/car sounding too loud as its my long hauler and tow vehicle that will see several thousand miles on long road trips. I intend to stick with factory AMG mufflers.
Install seems simple enough and I'd like feedback on how much louder it makes the car at constant velocity/part throttle/highway cruising speeds. Any reviews of "redstar exhaust" or "eurowise" as they seem reasonably priced. Weistec/renntech have the outrageous AMG tax.
Also, is a tune a must after downpipes to eliminate CEL?
Thanks in advance,

Built 2008 G55 & one big 80 Series LandCruiser !
We looked at UPD's ( Shardul is in houston) for our G63 - install was pretty intense.
We did have Eurocharge's
"Light" tune on it... it was a HUGE improvement.... and a ton more Hp avail.
On our recently totalled E63 wagon(same 55.tt) we had the E40 EC ECU/TCU tune with a blackboost intake and cat deletes - chart attached.... it was insanely fast.
For my G55 Eurocharged did a custom tune for the ECU and TCU that pulls timing in 1st and 2nd to save the shafts.... but when it hits third it's a beast. We did a built up southern Outlaws tranny for it, as it was failing when we bought it...
the Eurocharged ATX shop I used for all my merc builds recently was sold, the new owner is not my kind of operator....(prior to the Sale - Adam and Dave were absolutely Stellar to work with, hoping they open a new shop....) EC tuning guru Jerry in Houston has always been great to work with and can dyno-tune your vehicle....
more power is always good.......

I just installed MBH downpipes in mine. It was surprisingly quieter than what I expected(coming from a straight piped '10 C63) but sounded really good. Took me about an hour to swap them in. I haven't noticed any drone during freeway driving.

Did it improve smoothness in the powerband? My personal goal is not power or sound, I would like to make the lower and lower-mid power band smoother and more linear. Wondering if you think the downpipes accomplish that?
Also, I assume you got a tune to cancel the CEL and do you still pass emissions?

All I can say is it felt and sounded good. I do enjoy the sound of the turbos spooling up a bit faster now. I just got HP Tuners for it so I'm still playing with that to get the most out of it.
