Hi all,
The two speakers in the cargo area of my 2017 G550 4x4 squared appear to not be working. Does anyone know if they should operate in tandem with the rear passenger speakers? I was thinking that maybe they're for the surround sound but when the radio is on there is nothing coming out of them. Also, I count eleven speakers but can't locate speaker # 12. If anyone can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Couple things. The 12th speaker is a subwoofer located under the cargo floor. You say listening to the radio, the ‘17 550 doesn’t have HD radio so this might be a factor. If they’re not working with CD’s and other sources you might want to check the fuses for the sound system and check if any are blown.

If you're used to any modern sound system in basically any car from the past 10 years, you will be disappoitned with the performance of the system in any pre-2019 G (A lot of others have even expresses disappointment in the 2019+ high end systems). Mostly because the amps are underpowered and the speaker placement is terrible. The OEM subwoofer under the 2/3 bench seat is laughable at best being only a 6.5". Not sure how much power the amp sends to the sub, but in my 2005 it was ~20W and basically did nothing.
Can you connect your phone as a media source? Many times the radio cuts out surround as stated above.

I haven't tried connecting my phone yet but will soon. Yeah, the subwoofer under the seat is indeed small. Maybe I should put back those two JL's that the previous owner had in the cargo area (in a custom box but it covered some of the electrical outlets). I've been trying to find a wiring diagram just so I know what colors the wires on the woofer and those back speakers are but to date, no luck so the search continues.
