2010 G55
Time to replace the brake pads and possibly rotors.

My brake pad sensor showed up today, so it’s that time to replace pads. I have a 2010 G55, and from what I researched so far, it looks like most would recommend ebc yellow stuff pads.

I’m debating if i should change my rotors as well. My rotors have some life left to them, and it also looks like most recommend ebc rotors as well, it damn, the rear is close to $1k for the pair and fronts are around $800 for the pair. So just rotors alone. Would be about $1800.

pads def seem like a better choice to start first.

wanted to see if anyone else had any opinions?

thanks

Mic your rotors, as there's minimum thickness listed on the rotor.
On our last 2017, I was able to replace pads without rotors the first time, but the 2nd round, it was pads & rotors. I went with OE rotors, as the only place I could find them online was $20/ea more than the dealer. For pads , I went with Hawk because I had a connection at the time. EBC Yellow Stuff are good pads for hard use or heavier vehicles like these; they'll dust less than OE also.

I replaced my front rotors with Dynamic Friction 61063138 coated rotors from RockAuto, however I see those are out stock.
There are other good options, Pagid or Zimmerman

As for the pads, Brembo, Jurid, Bendix are good choices

Shouldn't cost more than $250-$300 USD delivered. Playing $1000, $1800 is absurd. Nothing special about replacing G55 brakes

Mine is 02 G500, so it might be different than 10 G55, but I bought all four corners of Dynamic Friction from Rockauto.com for little over $500 pads, rotors, hardware, sensor. Unfortunately, driver rear caliper bolts were rounded off, there is no way for me to take it off, so brought to indy to work on that as we speak. Front pad retaining pin was also a nightmare to replace due to living in salt belt Midwest. Everything is rusty crusty....

100% based on thickness and flatness of the rotors on your car. Brakes are one of the things I would not get from FCP. If it were mine (our G is the GLS) I would (and did) put EBC red's on for the higher performance I desire to stop such a heavy car.

2015 ml63 amg (w166/m157) | 2015 g550 (w463/m273)
i upgraded brake system:
  1. replaced rotors with r1 concepts drilled and slotted rotors (WBPN2-40065) - lowest price i found:
    Amazon Amazon
  2. replaced brake pads with ebc yellow
  3. most important: upgraded to stainless steel braided brake lines
with this setup, brakes on the g550 are fantastic. if forced to do only one upgrade, i would upgrade to stainless steel brake lines. without this, i don't believe that one reaps benefits of other upgrades in pads or rotors.

Just replaced OEM pads on my G63 - very straightforward. Rotors seemed like they had some life left. Pads were $240 from FCP and all 4 rotors are just about $1k. Really not bad.
