I want to improve the ambient lighting in my G. The stock lighting is quite dim. I’d like to replace all the lighting (except for that strange light that in front of the center console).
Ive ordered bulbs for both the footwells and door pulls, but I also want to replace the door card and rear view mirror lighting which is a bit more involved.
As I understand it, the door cards are lit by a single LED attached to a fiber optic cable. Would I be able to replace the LED with a higher wattage one? If so, what bulb should I use? I’m guessing I’ll have to splice it in?
As for the rearview mirror, that’s probably the most difficult given an LED is soldered to a board. Are there any options besides making my own board and soldering it in (I’m pretty bad at both tasks)?
Thanks.

Upgrading those specific lights is very difficult. The door card uses a special LED that you can't easily replace. Trying to use a higher-wattage one will likely damage the system.
For the mirror, you must solder a new LED onto the board. There is no simple plug-in solution.
Your most reliable option is to install a complete aftermarket ambient lighting kit made for the G550. This avoids the risk of damaging your factory electronics.

I replaced the footwell lighting which looks good. Do you have any suggestions for lighting kits?Originally Posted by Alexie
