I was hanging out with some R171 folks and wandered across a common ‘mod’ they all do to their 722.9s: recode the factory modules using Vediamo to add an extra mode to transmission. It shows up in our cars as A and I believe is the same as the Sport + mode in more modern 722.9 avatars.

Got a gentlemen in the UK to remote in and use my Tactrix open openport and do the recoding. Took about 35 minutes.

BIG positive difference. Holds gears a tad longer, much more eager to downshift. I drove about 100 miles so far and haven’t caught the tranny napping in the wrong gear yet. Short money for a very useful mod to W463 guys.
