Electric G Class (EQG) renders
Saw some recent renders of the EQG based off what Mercedes has done with the EQS and other vehicles. I suppose it will be an acquired taste haha. The first two models will be the EQG 560 and 580.

agreed... i have a feeling it wont look anything like the current Gs due to the bad aero.... if they make it look anything like an EQC, i am keeping my G550 forever lol ....

Is there even a market for an electric G? If I was going to buy an electric vehicle the G Wagon would be my last choice and I'm pretty sure most G Wagon owners would opt for a V8 fuel injection over an electric motor 😀

Good question. An electric G would be the niche-est of a very niche vehicle. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with. It’ll be heavy though because I suspect as the articles say they will need to load up the vehicle with lots of batteries to make the range feasible.

yup, agree 100%. i think an electric G might sell in some markets where cities are planning to ban gas powered vehicles altogether from their city centers. having said that, not sure if an electric G qualifies as an off road vehicle... how would you refuel if youre overlanding ? most off road trails have gas stations nearby but no electric charging stations. this means the electric G is purely a mall crawler.

Obviously, it would have to be quicker than the G 63. I think the lack of V8 sound could be an issue for some.

yea lack of sound might be a deal breaker for many.... lets hope they dont deviate from the classic G styling too much.

There are already aftermarket suppliers of engine noise generators for electric cars. I’m sure AMG could come up with their own to simulate the sound of their V8.
Just make it look like the current G and Im sure it will sell.

This might be the EQG concept that is being announced soon.

No more MB:(
An electric G would simply be a novelty. Expensive for sure and popular only because everyone will have to have the most expensive electric SUV in the world. Heavy with terrible aerodynamics it will be hugely impractical.

Read the Roadshow article. No spare tire, so that box is for the charging cables. They say it will be more capable with each wheel having a motor so no need for differential locks. Expected over 1,000 hp. Lordy.

Dan Neil writes an unenthused "Rumble Seat" review of the $70,000 Jeep Rubicon 4XE PHEV in today's Wall Street Journal that's worth reading. Let's hope the EQG does better.

Ordered! The EQG will be awesome.
Are there any other EQG threads here, or just this one (for now)?
This is the only EV I considered.. and still keeping my 2019 G. A V8 G Wagon will be even more valuable when they are all electric.
