Many inside MBZ say this is the end of the V8 for the G and do not expect that to change for a multitude of reasons but mostly gearing for hybrids across the fleet. They are being advised directly from MBUSA management.

lol. If I was a dealer I would also be telling everyone V8s are going away and to cough up the $50k ADMs now.

I would be shocked if anyone even 'management' at MBUSA knew what was going to happen in the future, I doubt some sales guys at MBUSA get all the product/engineering updates on a regular basis from MB HQ.

Just look at what Jeep did with the Wrangler, shove in a V8 (after years of executives claiming it won't fit and pass safety) and then also release a plug in hybrid. And look both are selling super well (the hybrid is the top selling PHEV in the US now.)

MB is a business trying to many money for its shareholders, why would they cancel such an in demand and super expensive vehicle? MPG requirements? Why wouldn't they just add in the cost of the fines to each G63? Or better yet start selling an electric one side by side to offset each other. Or just sell a bunch of GLA250 hybrids or whatever.

Even Land Rover just shoved a V8 into the Defender (and the two door version too)!

I think we are losing sight of the officially published reason for this issue - supply chain

Yes. Which is why the production halt is temporary.

I don't know bro. One member on here posted that his 2022 order was going to be cancelled and they told him that if he doesn't want to cancel, it will be a hybrid version.

Yeah, likely because they know they can sell it with a ridiculous ADM. If we were to take a poll I would bet you 85% of the '22 orders are still in with nothing more than the delivery date moving out 4-5 months.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Just spoke with the GM at my dealer where my order is. He confirmed '22 model year is NOT HAPPENING and the '22 production cars will be 2023s. Deliveries will be around Q3 / Q4 and it'll be the SAME AMG V8 that's in current production as the "engine is too new to replace". Unless your rolling around in money there's no reason to pay these ridiculous mark-ups. Just hang tight, the 4-5 month delay will be worth it and I hope the market for the Gs comes back to earth soon.

Thank you for sharing this! Super helpful!

Only problem now is, all the dealers I speak to, are telling me there is a 2-3 year waitlist for allocations, lol.

If they use the same approach as the newly announced 2023 GT63 S E hybrid I don’t think anyone will be upset.
630hp V8 plus an electric motor putting out over 800hp total.

Of course with 1 year of pent up demand plus everyone who has a G63 who might want to upgrade the wait list/ADM game may continue to be ridiculous for the foreseeable future

Call around. There are several dealers that don't have crazy wait lists. My suggestion is to look outside the main metropolitan areas.

I don't know. Hybrids do have noticeable differences in driving experiences from shifts, sounds, etc. Yes it's a little faster, but who cares in a G63?

Incorrect. MB announcement clearly states - "The company's prioritized focus to comply with various global, external and internal requirements, as well as several other factors..."

Sounds like more than just shortage.

NOT incorrect. You left out the part I referenced. This is right from the announcement: "challenges in the supply chain"

"MBAG has prioritized its focus to comply with various global, external and internal requirements, as well as several other factors, including but not limited to, **challenges in the supply chain** that have an impact on the product portfolio offered in the US market."

Granted that there are other factors as well, but they specifically called out supply chain.

All good! I just called that out because it seems like the general trend of this thread was moving in the direction that Mercedes had chosen to stop the G wagen for any number of reasons not related to the original memo.

Regadless, it will be interesting to see what happens to the used car values over the coming months.

The only issue is most are 2019 with high KMs (20k+) and 2020s priced at $260k or so.

Just spoke with someone that operates one of the largest rare exotics dealerships in Canada. Well connected with Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, etc.

He told me there will be no production at all in 2022, and the next release when production resumes will be hybrid engines...

The fact that there is so much conflicting info, means that no one knows for sure... but if the the hybrid fact is true, values will either maintain or go up even more for the 2021 models. Someone from Europe told me the hybrid GT 63 is NOTHING like the regular GT 63. Shifts suck, sound is tamed, range is sh*t, and it's more "assisted" driving.

Anyways, this might be entirely false, but time will tell.

If it is in fact a hybrid I suspect it’ll be similar to what they just did with the latest AMG 63 eHybrid. I would be perfectly fine with updated MBUX and better MPG / updated power train. People will pay for the latest and greatest and prices will go back down to earth.

That's a tough one to predict... we'll see.

lol. No one has driven the new GT63 S outside of MB employees. Anyone telling you anything about how it drives is making it up.

Remember when AMG went to the turbo’d 4.0 V8 from the 6.2 V8 everyone said that no one was going to buy the new ones and they would suck. Clearly not true.
