G 500 vs G 63 AMG suspensions

Hi there,

As you know one of the main differences between the G500 and the G63 is the suspension. The ride quality is very important to me, and by "ride quality" I meen soft/smooth ride as opposed to sporty/stiff ride. I have a Porsche 911 carrera S (992), so it covers the sporty driving and enjoyment for me. The G class will be my daily driver, so it ca to be comfortable. As much as I want to but the G63 and enjoy its engine, I'm hesitant because of the suspension. I've owned an AMG GLE coupe, and the ride quality was too stiff for me.

so, I'll split my question into few parts to make it easier to answer and remove subjectivity as much as possible

- As standard, does the G500 come with fixed suspension or Adaptive suspension (Adaptive Damping?)
- If I fit a G500 with Adaptive suspension, will it end up being like g63 in terms of ride quality
- Is the ride quality in the G63 harsh/stiff because of the AMG suspension? or the stiffness comes from the larger wheels?
- is there a way to soften the ride quality on G63?

Feels free to add any thing related to to suspension and ride quality

Adaptive suspension is an option on the G 550. It firms up the suspension. Haven't noticed if it is softer in regular mode then the standard suspension.
G 63 is stiffer then the G 550. I wouldn't characterize either of these cars as "smooth". Although they are both worlds better than the previous generation with its solid axles front and rear. The new G still has a solid rear axle.
The smoothest SUV MB has is the GLS with its air suspension, perhaps that would be better for you.

if ride quality is really important this might be a tough sell. at slower speeds the 63 on uneven roads will wake everyone up - front and rear passengers; same story for bridge joints, speed bumps, etc.
smaller wheel size, reduced air pressure and similar measures will make no difference. even with the advent of independent suspension in the front since MY19 the front wobbles over uneven pavement.
but when it gets going it soaks the same bumps much better. I regularly travel between BC and Alberta that involves significant changes in altitude and I can vouch that it can eat bentley's lunch money when the roads are good.

Hi, I was concerned with the same think ( I ended up in 63 for a reason 500 was just not available at the time). But I drove both and if you want comfy ride go with the 500. I drove both cars with 20" wheels and the 500 is significantly softer and the power is just ride for this type of car. The 63 is just bonkers

I am considering 2019+ G550 or G63, so researching only now. So neither has air suspension with ability to raise / lower vehicle?

I was under the impression the 2019+ have air suspension, but seems that’s not the case and the only change over previous generation is adaptive suspension whereby it is not driver set suspension with sport/comfort modes and height adjustment, but it only adapts on its own to the road conditions.

The suspension is adaptive but can also be controlled by the driver. No ride height control but it is auto leveling.
