That’s what I read somewhere, that’s a 4 mpg increase for city and highway. I’ve never seen anything over 14.6 mpg on the highway in my 21 and 24 G 63.

So far in Comfort Mode I getting 18 MPG around town and 22 MPG on a couple of highway trips in 2025 G550.

That’s great fuel mileage. I get around 13 mpg in the city. I’ve never seen 15 mpg on the highway, but I usually drive 80 mph on the highway.

Most of the highways near me are 75 speed limit so I drive 80 to 85.

I have to say, if you haven't driven the new G550, you might be pleasantly surprised at how competent the engine is, I've had a lot of performance cars in my day and I felt zero need for any more power than the 550. Each to their own though.
I think it's fair to assume most members on here have such relationships with their dealer, or at least the ADM's don't bother them if they're forced to pay it.

Definitely was not trying to put down the 550. It is still a fantastic car and if actual off-roading needs to be done then it is the better choice. That being said, if dealers are accepting MSRP for them when they just got released, my prediction is they will be discounted going forward. Specially if some of them continue to sit in showrooms.

As for the performance/sound aspect, for me it was a no brainer ordering the 25 G63. I still have my AMG GTC as my fun car, which Im thinking of replacing with the new Vantage or something similar. But, there is something about the deep burble of the 63 that is undeniable to me that makes even the most mundane drives special. But like you said, to each their own. I would still rather have the 550 over the 580 or any other EV for that matter.

It is hard to say what will happen with resale - when the new body style came out back in 2018 both the 550 and 63 were selling for MSRP. And everyone here on the forum was crying that it wasn't a real G anymore and they are going to be selling for way below MSRP in a few months.

When I got our 63 in mid 2019 nearly all dealers were doing MSRP for orders and had a modest (5k-10k) ADM for models on the lot. Of course things changed a lot during COVID and now the base MSRP has gone way up. The 550 costs the same as how much I paid for the 63.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I looked at all the dealers near me (Phoenix & Las Vegas) and all are asking $25,000 over MSRP. The Phoenix dealers have sold all the ones they had 2 weeks ago. Las Vegas has not sold any. I stopped into Mercedes North Scottsdale and they had 4 G550 all sold for $25,000 over MSRP according to sales person. They also had $2,900 of useless add ons on top of the $25,000. I paid $5K over MSRP at Mercedes of Northern AZ. Mercedes Northern AZ had a Polar White one with Red interior that they sold for $25,000 over to someone from Phoenix.

That's fair if that is your experience. This whole thread is showing the contrary though. The 25s haven't arrived in Canada yet, but dealers in my city are taking orders for 550s. Whereas, the 63 still has waitlists and loyal customers are given priority.

Where I live they want $25K to $50K over MSRP for a G63. I wonder if so many G550 are available is because dealers want large ADMs.

You're probably on to something there. Seems like dealers are desperately trying to hang on to covid level prices but the current market will soon correct that behaviour lol.

I called about 10 dealers in AZ, Nevada and CA and all wanted at least 15K over MSRP. If I hadn’t needed a new SUV I would have given it 6 to 9 months.

when the new 2019 released, adm’s in California were 50,000$+.

Has nothing to do with Covid

Going down a different road

I had a ‘19 G550 and enjoyed it very much for 6 years. It was G that I drove on beaches and into deep woods where people were surprised to see a G. My biggest complaint was 14mpgs. I waited patiently for the ‘25 G550 with hope for a plug-in hybrid. Seeing that the mild hybrid 6 wouldn't result in a significant jump in mpgs, I decided to replace my G with more efficient off-roader. Despite the belief that some people think G550 owners only care about the status of the vehicle, I actually care about mpgs, so I replaced my G with 24mpg Toyota Tacoma hybrid. It has most of the comfort, safety, and tech that G had in a more efficient package.

^agree with the efficiency comments^

V8 Cayenne, Urus and Bentayga preowned models are on my next-up list but I am having a hard time with consumption. Urus is 14mpg which seems dumb.

MB *53 models seem good in principle but it's MB reliability, a big fail. So it's likely a late-model .1 Cayenne S, or changing brands with the next car. BMW doesn't do much for me.

Plus you might as well get an Audi RSQ8 or SQ8. I have been surprised to get a little over 17 MPG in city driving in my 2025 G550.

Agree from a consumption point of view. Not a fan of Audi interiors, infotainment and powertrain tuning. Plus, I am not brand/brand group loyal. If I don't do another .1 9Y0 Cayenne it will probably be the new 4Runner. Or something else.

Different topic, but what do you mean "most insurance co's have a 150k limit" ? I've never heard that. When I got my G63 my current insurer plus three or four others all quoted me and that's more than 150k.

Maybe sad to say but cars > $150k aren't so rare anymore. Forget exotics, but MB, BMW, Porsche, Land Rover, hell even Cadillac have numerous models > 150k.

I’ve never heard of that either. State Farm has either purchased Hagerty, or they’re going to.

My experience was the same with USAA and Met Life, no $150K limit.

Not sure they should be advertising "6 cylinder" like that...some doofuses probably dont know that yet and think there's still an 8 in there.

Although maybe the naming will change like it did for car models. a 300E used to mean a 3 litre motor, and a 320i bmw was a 2 litre. Now a C63 is a 2 liter 4-banger.

Pretty soon a "V12" will mean a 1.8l two-stroke only because the output is similar to the V12.

What is your suggestion? That they lie about the displacement or number of cylinders?....

Engine downsizing is going to be the norm going forward until ICE is phased out. I too love gas engines, but no need to go all grandpa shouting at the wind about it. Also no, a V12 will always be a V12. Sure you're going to see much less of them going forward (or possibly none at all) but manufacturers wont be calling a 4 banger a V12 because it is just false and would have them ridiculed by the public/customers.

Automakers can't lie to us. Duh gubmint wouldn't allow that. Duh gubmint works for us people not multinational corporations. That's why I know a Taycan Turbo really has a turbo. Bwahahaha!

@desertg63 What I mean by that is
At Progressive, we'll likely cover your luxury or sports car, but we don't insure cars valued over $150,000.

And I just switched to Progressive from Geico last week so oh well, no G for me then.

Interesting. I used progressive when I first got my Taycan - which had an MSRP of $163k and they didn't give me any issues. I now use GEICO as it was much cheaper.
