The new windshield is installed. Turns out my insurance covers 100%. Although insurance wanted safelite to cover it but could only be done at the dealership workshop due to the sensors calibration etc. with everything completed, it cost a little over $4100, covered by insurance

Great news that your insurance covered the costs 100% and you’re back on the road again.

my insurance covers 💯 also but my agent warned that it can effect your premium and since cost is high to replace, they can choose not to renew you.... 1 windshield is 2x the premium that they would collect in 1 year. No cracks yet on mine but that is my fear.

I have a $500 deductible (which I may decrease to $250 for the G)--that's my concern also that too many claims will be looked at negatively, and one of the reasons why I paid out of pocket for replacing my Rover's windshield last month ($900) so I kept a claim off my record. I previously asked USAA about windshield replacement and they stated they wouldn't have a limit on how many I could claim, but I'm dubious about that.

Probably but doesn’t make sense as it’s no fault of your own.

appreciate the kind words—I’m beginning to think that they’ve made this gen G so usable that folks are using it more like a regular vehicle for road trips etc, that’s exactly what we are doing, yet the vertical windshield hasn’t been made robust enough to take into account of that fact...need to do something about this reoccurrence now..what a PITA...

Omg. 2nd time?! This is really terrifying. Do you mind sharing what caused it? Did you put the protection film after the first incident?

Sorry for your woe, very unfortunate. My 2018 has a few micro chips that I really have to look hard to find. We try and avoid highways, city cruiser now. It's a box.

Sorry to see this happened again!

I have exoshield and 500 miles in had a rock hit the windshield on Friday. Chipped the exoshield which protected the windshield like it was supposed to, same concept as a clear bra for the paint.

I had 2 windshields break in my 2019 550. Drove it about 17,000 miles. I can’t find anyone near me who does windshield protections.

I got the multi shield protection when I got my G63... that covers unlimited windshield replacements... or Atleast that’s what I was told... and wheel replacement (not repair) if needed... and they cover $500 deductible if any insurance claim is made for any other reason... it was $3200 for 4 years...

I've had my G550 for two weeks (750 miles) and I went to drive my car and there was a crack in my windshield. It doesn't seem like there's a point of impact. Is it possible that maybe the windshield wasn't installed correctly at the factory? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle it?

What was the cost breakdown, glass versus installation?

This has been a known issue, people have had windshields crack without known impact and someone on here even had their side window crack.

If there's no obvious impact there's a chance you can get it covered under warranty but expect the dealer and MB to give push back.

A windshield is part of a vehicle's structural integrity and proper installation is crucial. Spontaneous cracking is indicative of either a component or an assembly defect that should be covered under warranty.

Will be 3 years in July and finally got my first major windshield chip driving on the 101 in corte madera. Seemed like a small tick sound but the chip was quick to spread. That is getting repaired at the dealer now. Glad I bought the insurance from the dealer when I bought it new.

FYI, the mb dealer in SF (new location in south SF) has 4 - 5 2021 G63s on the lot if anyone looking. No clue on ADM.

I didn't know they moved from SF to South SF. Seems awfully close to Autohbahn in Belmont...

New owner? Marin just changed hands from Penske to Swickard. Wonder if SF sold, too.

On my G63 from 2 years back, I bought it new and paid to have an insurance through the dealer. It had unlimited windshields that it would replace if the crack was bigger than an inch or something like that. But on my 21 G63 I asked if they had it and they did. But instead of getting a new windshield if the crack was so big, and unlimited windshields. The new coverage was unlimited repairs is all, so I never got it. U might want to check with your dealer to be sure. Nevertheless, I flipped my 21 for a good price over what I paid and am in a 22 Corvette now (:
