Remove headlight surround? Anyone done it yet?

Hi - I'm in the process of hooking up some aux led lights on my G550 and stopped when I realized that the headlight surrounds do not come off like my previous 2017 W463. I'm not sure if you need to take the front grille off to get the headlight piece off? I started to unpop off a couple mounts but then I stopped when it got harder to pry it loose. Anyone removed it yet? or have links to pics of the backside of the surround so I can see how it mounts?

Connecting a Skene module, so I need access to the low and high beam wires - tapped into them off the headlight harness in the 2017 I had previous....

Thanks in advance,
Will

Oh, it is a big job. You have to remove the front bumper, which requires the removal of the wheel well covers. You then have to remove the turn signals by removing the gaskets surrounding each turn signal - inevitably you will break a couple of plastic tabs- it even says so in Mercedes's own instructions for removal. There are 3 Torx screws that you must remove by sticking your hand through the turn signal hole to remove the light covers. You then have to remove the front grille -there are 4 bolts for the grille, two under the hood up top and two on each side that you will see after you remove the bumper.

Good luck!

This. On mine, the plastic piece that the clips are attached to came loose and I had to go through this and Gorilla Glue it back. Absolute crap design compared to previous G.

with all the feedback, I chickened out and found a 12v+ source in the engine bay fusebox that only is on when the car is on - and then I got the constant 12v+ from the normal spot where you would jump the car in the engine bay. Though I don't get the different brightness levels with the low/high beams being on, this way will save me the trouble of having to get behind the headlights!!! Thx again

My passenger side headlight is rattling and from what I can see on other post it looks like the headlamp needs to be put back in the socket pin. When Im driving behind another vehicle and I hit bumps i can see only the passenger side headlamp shaking against the bumper of the car in front of me.

You might be able to get to it by removing the wheel liner under the fender...thats how I got to the headlight wiring harness...you might be able to see why the headlight housing is loose!!!
