Anyone installed a no-wire Dashcam?

 

Are you referring to a camera that's battery powered, one that records video to your smartphone, or both?

 

There are many Chinese G owners installed this kind of customized dashcam which power by connecting to the mirror wires. Looks so cool.

 

With all the needless and annoying standard equipment technology that car manufacturers are putting into vehicles, two missing items are (1) dashcam (front & rear) and (2) built-in OBD-II readers.
I hung a wired dashcam from the ADAS plastic cover behind the rear view mirror and routed power cabling to the lighter power socket in the backseat center console. There's too much temperamental stuff inside the ADAS cover that I don't want to mess with -- even tapping into 12VDC.

 

That's pretty clean and looks good. MB has a dash cam option for the GLS right now but not sure how good it is. That new Guard 360 thing for 2022 sounds promising that the car will take pictures from the surround camera view if it detects getting hit in the parking lot.

 

The reason why manufacturer's do not include internal dashcams from factory is because of the legal nightmare surrounding the privacy of occupants with conversations etc and how that can be used in law enforcement and/or hacked

Another legal nightmare is if the dashcam fails and an accident occurs
