Question Mercedes service plan worth it for these? I'm leaning toward no but want some input

I'm about to help pick up the G550 we snagged for my mom. Paying over sticker but seemed like a deal at the height of the cancelled 2022 craze. We didn't get to build a car the way we wanted in this crazy market, but we're just excited to get one. Really wanted an Olive Metallic car with a black interior but the one we were able to get once we made a decision was matte black. Spent too much time debating between this and a new LR Defender.

I just figured I'd check in and ask here if people got the service plan or not and whether it was worth it. We were considering buying an extended warranty and were leaning toward yes but on the service plan we were leaning toward no since it caps out at 4 years/40k miles and my mother doesn't put a lot of miles on her cars. They quoted $2850 for that plan. I don't have a clue what minor and major services cost for these vehicles so figured I'd check here and also see what people were paying for a service plan if anyone even thought it penciled out.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Probably isn’t worth it, ask the dealership what the difference is paying vs the plan. The first service is just an oil change and I think the second 2 year service is an oil change and cabin filter replacement. I’m just going to pay out of pocket. Around the first of December will be my first service. I think I’ll have to pay for the oil change. Porsche and Lexus give you the first service at no charge, but I don’t think Mercedes does.

Yeah hard to get service quotes on a Sunday. We just passed on it but figured I'd ask you folks beforehand.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the services bounce between A and B service each year. Even if not many miles are put on, they recommend servicing at least once a year--I'm due in December for my one year and don't have 7000 miles yet.

Last year I called a local dealer for price quotes as I was considering the same thing you are, and they quoted me $350 for A service and $750 for B service.

I don't know if all A's and B's are created equal but if so, for four years that would be A/B/A/B which would be $2200 total.

I ended up not getting an extended warranty or service contract as I figured I would be trading up within a year or two.

Windshield insurance might be worthwhile as it covers installation at the location of your choice, including home and work.

In reply to the OP, IMHO the answer is "no". The MB A-service is a glorified oil change plus visual inspections. Plan on a couple of high margin goodies (extras) for the dealer (a new set of wiper blades and cabin filter at 3x retail cost and topping off fluids at $$$/fractional gallon). My DIY cost for the A-service is $122 (US), which covers oil, filter, wiper blades (3), and cabin filter. B-service adds a set of air filters ($45 DIY) and a brake fluid change (if you think you need this after 20K miles). At 48K miles (5 years) spark plugs and gear box fluid changes are due, and this ups the $$ substantially (and are likely beyond service plan coverage).
Nevertheless, your mom probably doesn't own an oil drain pan, a creeper and a set of torx drivers, so the MB service plan buys her peace of mind and periodic reminders from the dealer, and relieves you of dealing with it.

A gaggle of MB's
To be helpful - and I don't have a dog in this hunt..

1. To your Dealer's credit - they are quoting you Mercedes MSRP - and they ARE NOT over-charging/quote for Prepaid Service

2. To you (and your mother's credit) - you are looking to get that out-of-the-way - just on Convenience/Piece-Of-Mind if it was just "even" - peace of mind is a Plus

3. Maintenance quotes over-the-phone are Designed to "sound good" - however at B-Service there is "recommended" Service like brake-fluid flush & transmission Service that takes a B-Service to
$1500+

4. Pre-Paid Service covers BOTH required and recommended

5. The best thought - you want to be Covered going into the Next B.
The most effective costing when buying "new" - pay 1st/20K-1Yr out-of-pocket THEN purchase a 3yr/30K pack BEFORE 1st B/20K - at $2060 that will cover you B/20K-A/30K-B/40K
With time/mileage there is a "bump" when hitting/over 40K/B - 45K Sparkplug change where you want to have Prepaid Service definitely when you approach that
