G400 CDI Transmission Vibration

G400 CDI Transmission Vibration
Hi all - I just bought a W463 which has a very worrying vibration coming from the floor, only during light to moderate acceleration, in all gears. Under heavy load (torque converter locked), the vibration goes away. In addition, under very light acceleration, the engine rpms raise and lower as it seems the trans/torque converter is trying to figure out what to do.
Shifting through all the gears is smooth. Shifting from P -> D, and D -> R is smooth.
I bought a transmission dip stick, but it doesn't have the measuring bars for cold & hot, but has a bunch of numbered lines, which was unexpected. Either way, comparing to images of the 'regular' dip stick, the level seems high (and the fluid seems clean, and doesn't smell burnt).
After some research, I'm sorry to learn these transmissions are a weak point for this (CDI) vehicle. I'm hoping someone here has some experience with these problems and can hone in one the problem, before I have to consider an entirely new trans.
