Ordering a 2023 (or 2024 when they're out) G550

I've heard all sorts of things about the time it takes to get one. I guess right now you can't even look at them on Mercedes website bc they're switching from the 2023's to the 2024's (hopefully those will be out soon.) I've got a close family friend in a big market that we've been buying cars from for the past 25+ years and he reached out to a higher up at a Mercedes dealership near him; for context I guess they've known each other for a long time and both do I owe you's. This guy is apparently willing to order me a new G550 and sell it to me for sticker. I 100% believe that if he says he'll sell it for sticker he will but how does it work when you order directly from Mercedes when the 2024's come out? HE told me there is a 4-6 month wait time. Does that sound credible at all? Will it be more like 8-12 months? Or will it be more like never? Just kind of curious bc I'm not too sure how it works and I've seen all sorts of different answers. I'd be happy to wait 6 months and I'd even wait a year but what I don't want to do is wait a year and then learn that I'm never going to get it. Purchased Mercedes before but this would be the first time buying a G550. I know this thread is kind of all over the place but thanks for any help/suggestions/advice.

I have a 23 550 coming in next 2 months and will be selling our 2 month old 22.

As far as production 4-6-10 months, it all depends on the queue in front of you.

The wait is dealer dependent. Some dealers have a long list with fewer allocations and some dealers have more allocations with a shorter wait list. Dealer usually will let you know the situation at that dealership.

So to get a vehicle you spec you need an allocation from the factory. How long to get that depends on your dealer and where you are on the list.

Once you get an allocation it’s a good 4-5 months minimum to take delivery. I got an allocation on 10/24 and took delivery 3/31 for my 2023. However I told the dealer over a year ago to put me on the list.

The 2023s just came out so no idea what’s happening with the 2024’s. My dealer told me allocations that went out last month were for Fall builds so assuming any G’s delivered in calendar year 2023 will be model year 2023.

The status of the online configurator has no bearing on reality. They never released the 22 configurator publicly and here we are taking delivery of 23s.

Lastly getting a G550 at msrp is not difficult so it’s great the dealer is helping out but don’t let them make you feel like they are doing something extraordinary for you and take advantage.
