G63 Towing capactiy

So I have just got mercedes to install the tow pack on my 2020 g63.

I have noticed the maximum ball weight is only 150 KG.
Can anyone who has towed big loads had any issues with higher?
Is there any kits to get a higher towing capacity?

Thanks!

The aftermarket tow package is apparently spec'd lower than OEM. My 2019 G550 is spec'd at 225kg (500 Lb) tongue (ball) weight, and 3500 kg (7700 lbs) tow weight. No matter the tow weight, you want to make sure you observe the tongue weight -- not over spec, but not under spec either. There are many good online sources for information about towing techniques so it's not worth duplicating here. Towing a 1000 kg load is usually not a big deal, but as the tow weight approaches that of the vehicle weight, you need to drive slower and more cautiously. If you've never towed before, I'd start with a modest load to get a general feel for the experience and practice backing up.

Thanks! Yes this is the issue. the 225kg will be 100% fine for my needs, but 140 isnt.

Do you understand why its specced lower? is there a way to get the OEM installed?

Here's an image of the sticker that's on my factory installed hitch, and it differs a bit from the owner's manual spec. The sticker indicates 3175 kg tow weight and 255 kg tongue weight. These numbers are closer to those generally recommended by industry sources -- a tongue weight of 10% to 15% of the tow weight. Without sufficient tongue weight, the trailer load will have a tendency to sway. I'd be fine with maybe up to 2000 kg with 200 to 225 kg on the hitch, but anything over 2000 kg, I'd be looking into anti-sway type hitches.

The 140 kg tongue weight spec on your hitch seems abnormally low. Is this the spec that appears on the hitch itself or is it in the printed documentation that came with it?

Thats on my sticker and the specs for the ball.

Was yours installed at factory or after?

It appears the australian product which I have is rated differently to the overseas product.

Thanks
