Anyone Upgraded G550 Brakes to Red AMG Set Up
Hi all
Anyone with a regular G, so not 63, upgraded their brakes to 63 AMG full set up with red calipers, rotors, pads etc. and did it direct bolt up?
Im thinking about this for my G350d albeit using Brembo OE rotors for a fraction of the cost compared to genuine Mercedes parts, so wondered if anyone heres done this upgrade?
Some online sellers have the kit but want G Wagon tax on top LOL
Thanks
Carl

Everyone has their own taste, and needs, but I would say this would be a MASSIVE waste of money and time.
The brakes are very expensive even just the calipers and the hardware needed are $$$$. Not sure about mounting if any suspension parts would need to be swapped as well, but even the aftermarket brembo rotors are still spendy. OEM are a complete rip off, but brembo are still double or triple what other car rotors should cost, the oem ones are double or triple the brembo cost.
The benefit from the AMG brakes are minimal when considering the cost. I would say this will cost AT LEAST $10,000.00 or more, and you'd simply get red calipers and a little better braking performance. I just dont think it's worth it in my opinion.
If it was me I would try to source some standard red calipers, or maybe even have a high end shop powder coat them, IF thats your motivation is to just get red calipers? there's other options to accomplish that and NOT spend 10-20,000.00
For reference this is a USED g63 brake set up for sale on eBay, 8200.00 plus tax, plus install. So I would plan on this costing 10-12,000.00 after install, and the brakes are used. So who knows how long before you need to spend another 5-10,000.00 to do new pads and rotors.
Obviously this is USD, but im sure similar story anywhere.
