transport of skis with G
Curious how do you carry your skis with the G Class.
For 2 adult skis and 2 children (shorter skis till aprox 136cm) it was an easy choice for me - the adult skis would go through the small opening in the rear seat and children skis in the trunk
For 3 & more pairs of adult skis I am looking for an option:
- rooftop box -- not very attractive due to height of the car as access will be difficult. also for long distances it will make aerodinamic of the car even worse than it is (if that is even possible )
- rear ski box - I thought would be ideal, but with the one I found from MFT you cannot open the back door of the G to access luggage.

So, what do you use to go skiing with your G but with your own skins, not rented thank you

Are you wanting to make sure your skis are enclosed in a box? If not, you could just put some ski carriers on the OEM roof crossbars. Some of the same aero concerns as the roof box, but a bit less weight, easier to install / store when you’re not using them, etc.

If height clearance is an issue, you could do an easy DIY to the hitch mount. I like the hitch method because, accessing the skis was much easier without climbing up and potentially damaging your doors. Since it was in the rear with wind blocked by the car, there wasn’t a decrease in mileage at all unlike the top mount.
I used:
I used:
- Swingable hitch extension so rear door can still open.
- Old Thule Ski Carrier
- Hitch Cargo Carrier to mount the Thule
- Yakima License Plate Attachment
