G580 design Box replacement
Hi guys
I’m new to the g world , bought recently an edition 1 g580
The thing in dislike the most in the car is the design box. I would like to swap it for a tyre case instead. Does anyone knows if it is possible and what would be approx the cost of doing it ?
also, the side strips on the doors have a blue part on them. Is it possible to swap them for the “regular” ones?

I’m pretty sure the strips can be changed to black.
My guess is the attachment for the box is the same as a spare so it’s easier to run these cars in the factory? If so your two options are to buy the OEM tire case along with an OEM spare (note the tire case will not fit a full size wheel and tire) or to buy an aftermarket adapter that allows you to run the spare rim facing out—assuming the 2025 rear door is like the 2019-2024.
Assume you are in the UK—in the US the spare tire cover I would guess would be somewhere in the $2,000-2,500 range as it comes in two parts and one would need to be painted. The adapter I linked is $650 and can run a full size spare.
For OEM spares, Mercedes uses the 20 inch 10 spoke G550 rim matched to either silver or black depending on night package, and the wheel is smaller than full size but more robust than a donut.
That rim is probably $500 from eBay but more expensive from dealer. Tire would probably be $350-450.

In some markets you can specify no spare or no design box and there’s a painted cover trim piece. If you can source that/those part(s) it could be another option.

We saw a G580 at a local dealer yesterday, just to be sure we want to order one for sure, which we do when the allocation arrives. It had the design box and at first my wife did not like it but when she got behind the wheel she changed her mind since the rear visibility is much better as compared to the spare tire.
