G63 Flat Plane Crank?

Will the G63 get a Flat Plane Crank? Reportedly, this is happening in other AMGs in 2026....

Unlikely, heard from the other thread the flat-plane was mainly because of compact and fitment concerns on the CLE.

I highly doubt it. The G63 has plenty of room for the existing cross-plane crank shaft V8 it currently uses. I don't think MB will want to tinker with the G63 much more in the next couple of years.

The flat-plane V8 will be mainly for the smaller vehicles (starting with the CLE63 later this year then probably the C63 in 2026) because they take up less space. The flat-plane doesn't sound as throaty as the cross-plane, but they do have the capacity for revving higher.

You're more than welcome. I honestly don't believe MB will (or at least hope MB won't) make anymore material changes to the G63 mechanically, other than inconsequential minor exterior designs. For the '25, it already sounds and drives too much like a sedan as opposed to a truck for my liking.

I am, however, eager to find out more of the '29 50th anniversary edition as my dealer actually told me to hold off on trading in my '24 as the '29 G63 will be something very special. He said there are already rumblings internally at corporate MB for something special for '29, but he does not know the specific details. I believe him because most dealers usually want you to upgrade every year so they can keep profiting off commissions on both ends (the sale of a new model and the resale of an older model from the trade-in), and he's the first one I've come across who flat out told me to hold on to my '24 at least until the '29.

The G-wagen is an icon, it is the only thing in its class and there are no competitors. It is MB's cashcow, they won't mess with it.
