Reliability of the new Active Ride Control suspension

Everyone says the new suspension in the AMG Performance Package is much better than the coilovers in terms of ride and handling. I have no reason to doubt that. My only concern is the reliability.

One of the biggest selling points of the G63 to me is the reliability. It’s most reliable car above 150k by a long shot. We all know the coilovers are pretty much bulletproof as seen in many tests. If the suspension becomes a point of failure I would be hesitant to upgrade.

I tried to do a surface level search and there doesn’t seem to be any concrete answers.

So, how is the reliability and durability of the new suspension? Would it become a new maintenance item?

Too soon to tell as it is very new. However, there have been similar suspensions in the past. McLaren has long used a similar system linking the dampers hydraulically instead of using sway bars. Audi also has a similar suspension on offer in some of the RS models. At one point or another, they all had leaking issues. There are high pressures at work and hydraulic leaks are the most common issue with these types of suspensions.

I guess it uses way higher pressures than abc as well.

Extended warranty is the solution to any such problems. I'm picking up my 2025 today and unloading my 2019 on trade (that I'm taking a beating on) that has been fairly problematic without an extended warranty. Never again will I own one of these without such a warranty. My new G63 has the advanced suspension and I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs. The G63 already handles surprisingly well for such heavy truck. The videos online seem quite impressive. I drive my G pretty hard so it should be quick to determine the difference.

Hoping for reliability with an MB, especially an AMG, is whistling past the graveyard.

Zero uncertainty that an adjustable, semi-active or active suspension is less reliable than steel springs and traditional stabilizer bars.

An unanswerable question is: “How reliable is the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL system?”

Buy one and see.

Only time can tell and it could be made reliable. Air-Matic suspension was originally a disaster when it debuted on the 2000 S-Class but later after 2007 and multiple enforcements and upgrades became very reliable and almost every S-Class since 2007 has been running on Air-Matic.

Yeah, I suppose I'm gonna wait a few years and see how reliable it turns out to be.
