So I'm negotiating a G63 that has Night Package with the gloss black wheel arches. The more I look at the photos, the weirder it looks. The truck is a Platinum Magno, but has the black wheel arches, Night Package I assume? I was looking at side by side photos of a standard Platinum Magno without night package, and while I'd love the brush guard in black, something about the wheel arches takes away the wide-body look and bulldog stance of the G. I get that it's "special" with the black elements, but am I crazy in thinking it makes the G look less angry and imposing?

With magno to not have a silver brush bar, they force you to get the black bumpers and arches unless you either get the dark chrome package or the carbon fiber (which gives a magno brush bar but without the bumper and arch treatment).
I've had two vehicles with it, neither one I optioned out. One with olive metallic which was a wash because it was really hard to tell, and one with white where the contrast actually looked okay. I wouldn't choose to spec it.
It'll grow on you but it's a lot of money to spend on a vehicle that looks weird to you.

To me it comes down to the contrasting colour. I agree with you in regard to the platinum, but I wouldn’t say my colour combo makes the truck look less aggressive.

The perfect combo would be Platinum Magno with the black wheels and black guard to tie it in, but body colored wheel arches. Would look so cool.

Good point on the contrast. On your car it looks awesome because it’s not eating away at the size of the truck if that makes sense. On a lighter color like gray or silver, it makes the stance look that much smaller, like it’s hiding the width of the car..

I agree that the roof should also be black. I think with the Magno colors you lose some of the "pop of color" you get with the metallic and clearcoat colors. My G is Arabian grey, with night packag plus, and with the black roof..... it looks very aggressive.

I need to see a few in person. I know it's a special option and they sell for a slight premium. Maybe it's the photos that are bothering me lol. It drives me crazy when I see expensive car ads with awful photos, especially because it takes no effort to hold the phone at a proper angle and distance.

I totally agree that if possible go see it in person. The funny thing is, the magno exterior spec you have posted above was almost my exact spec when I initially placed my order. I had about 6 months to ponder my choice... so I went to various dealerships looking at Used and new Gs in Platinum Magno. I was almost sold until I went to one particular dealership and they had a Platinum Magno sitting next to an Arabian Grey. Both had the night package.... both were beautiful trucks but I found myself gravitating to the Arabian. The colors just popped way more! I immediately called my dealer and ask could I changes colors, he was able to in the nick of time because the very next day the order was locked!

Our W465 is a very similar exterior spec, but with the AMG Offroad Package PRO. Decided not to black the roof out since the rack itself was already black and there were plenty of black accents elsewhere.
Here's a solution if you like everything else about the truck. Put regular PPF on the fenders (not stealth or matte). Front bumper obviously too, and that will give you protection/turn them glossy like you like. Best of both worlds
That's because you are missing the matte black roof to complete the look. The G looks very weird if you have the black fenders without the black roof, looks incomplete in my opinion.
Also, be careful with mixing matte and glossy paint. A lot the trim pieces on the G are done in matte plastic, including the running board and window pieces.
I went everything in matte finish on my Kundewunsch G63 to match everything.

How come, what don't you like about it? Do you prefer body painted ones?
imo the black wheel arches and night package plus looks good with dark paints and horrible with light colored paints. Makes the profile look smaller and the front like a football helmet.

I see so specific paints, it does stand out after all if there is contrast.
This thread title is completely misleading. There is no such thing as Consensus on this forum. Get/order the G the way you like. Remember, this forum is a microscopic sample of total ownership. Obviously this is all just my opinion as well....

Well, fair to say it is also a personal preference thing.
As stated by others It's very much personal opinion but since you asked for opinions I'll give you mine: I'm a fan of the European style G wagon, which is why I have a G550 with base wheels and no night package. That's mostly what you see in the G Wagon's home market.
Giant wheels and blacked out is more a North American thing and a little too closely associated with a certain Armenian family from SoCal for my personal taste. But get what you like.

Great points, exactly why I gave a G550 in Polar We with no blackout package. I do like the nicer leather and massaging seats on the interior.
Thanks for the advice. We switched the wife’s order to the dark chrome. We initially ordered the night package but the more I looked at the images I liked to see the colored bumper through the bully bar. We are going bold with the Orange Magno
