Replace Start/Stop Engine button G Wagon
Contrary to what is stated in posts #22 and #23 above, the air vent assembly does not need to be extracted prior to removing the trim strip.
Begin removal of the trim strip at the passenger side air vent where there is a stitching seam in the leather at about the 4 o'clock location. I used a set of trim strip tools from Harbor Freight. Nudge the corner of the tool under the trim and gently pry up, and place another trim tool in where the trim separates from the leather. Work the tools around the trim strip in the area surrounding the air vent, and the trim strip pops out. Then work the tools along the length of the strip toward the start/stop button. The clearance above the center air vents is close, but is enough for the trim strip to pop free. Continue toward the start/stop button and pop the remaining clips free. Disconnect the start/stop button electrical connector to complete removal. Installation requires repositioning the trim strip and giving it gently thumps with your hand to pop the fasteners back into place.
You're welcome.
