Is there a best location to begin releasing the clips? My trim strip is seated firmly against the leather, and there does not appear to be any place where a wedge tool can fit in to begin prying.

Need to remove the air vent and start from the air vent side. The removal process is pretty much standard in all Mercedes.

No one was interested in responding to the questions I asked in the 2 posts above, so allow me to respond to my own questions.

Contrary to what is stated in posts #22 and #23 above, the air vent assembly does not need to be extracted prior to removing the trim strip.

Begin removal of the trim strip at the passenger side air vent where there is a stitching seam in the leather at about the 4 o'clock location. I used a set of trim strip tools from Harbor Freight. Nudge the corner of the tool under the trim and gently pry up, and place another trim tool in where the trim separates from the leather. Work the tools around the trim strip in the area surrounding the air vent, and the trim strip pops out. Then work the tools along the length of the strip toward the start/stop button. The clearance above the center air vents is close, but is enough for the trim strip to pop free. Continue toward the start/stop button and pop the remaining clips free. Disconnect the start/stop button electrical connector to complete removal. Installation requires repositioning the trim strip and giving it gently thumps with your hand to pop the fasteners back into place.

You're welcome.

It is much easier if you remove the air vent because you can literally grab the trim once the vent is out and no need for significant prying but whatever works for you best.

I googled for information on vent removal, and found very little useful information. Most of the YT's describe using the tool to hook into holes at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. No such holes exist on my vents. Mine has a slot opening at 6 o'clock, but hooking into it did not result in any budging, and I didn't want to damage the vent assembly. There was one YT -- a guy working on a Sprinter with vents like mine. He picked up his flashlight to show viewers where the holes are, and discovered his batteries were dead. "oh well", he says, "they're in there". The pry tools work fine -- it was just a matter of finding a place to squeeze one in to get started.
