Rate this Deal: GLE350 > G550

I currently have a 2020 GLE 350 (technically 2019 b/c we purchased March 2019) with 42,000 miles. I'm considering a trade to a 2021 G550 with 40,600 miles. Dealer offer $115K for G550 (CPO) and trade offer of $27K on my GLE. G550 package includes: manufaktur paint, leather upgrade, black out kit, black flatwood ash wood trim, and various other "night package" items. So far, no movement on list price. I haven't seen it in person yet. We are making the 5 hour drive this weekend. Any think I should consider with owning a G550? In all honesty, I really still love my GLE, but the color of the G class has been one I've been eyeing for a while and this is within my wheelhouse. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thank you

Have you ever test driven one? If not see if there's one close to you just to drive around some.

I'd try to research the maintenance schedule and determine what has been done on this vehicle, such as brakes. I'd also get everything in writing in terms of a deal and if you want it to put a refundable deposit on it. I've heard plenty of stories and 5 hours is a long drive just to show up and hear the car is sold, or they may change the deal on you knowing you have 5 hours invested and are more likely to agree to a worse deal.

2021 G550
The price on the G550 sounds about right. I paid $119K or so for a 2021 CPO with 34k miles last summer, wasn't as highly optioned as the one you are looking at (regular leather interior and emerald green paint). I found that there's so many variants and options with these cars that if you can find one that checks 90% of your boxes (including budget), you should just go for it. It's been almost a year and I love my 550 and am considering adding a G63 next year because I like the platform so much.

My family has had a GLE for a while and I recently picked up a 550. They're quite different in how they drive, GLE is a modern SUV platform, the G is a body on frame truck platform that weighs a lot and center of gravity is high. Definitely recommend driving a G class first if you haven't already and make sure you're OK with this. Also seating position is MUCH more upright on the G, so it if you have a bad lower back, it could be a challenge. Brakes are going to be a consumable. At 40k, the next job is rotors as well assuming they pad slapped the second set. You're also coming up on trans fluid, and diff fluids soon as well as spark plugs, depending on how early you want to do those. Price is about right. My '19 with 20k miles was 110 and it also had triple layer paint, upgraded seat package, night package and black ash wood.
