I'm planning on trading my 2003 G55 with a 2005 G55 with over 40,000 miles on it. Any '05 G55 owners here have had major problems. The dealer told me that the only problem is the SRS light coming on. Any thing else I should look out for? Has most of the electrical problems with pre-supercharged G55s been ironed out on the '05 models?

I've only got 5500 miles on mine but have had it about a year. So far the mechanicals have been rock solid, and don't get me wrong, I love the vehicle, but I've been less than pleased with the build quality of the parts AMG doesn't handle. So far I've had the power window electronics/motors break in both back doors, windshield wiper motor gone and most alarmingly, two small spots of RUST showed up around the sun roof cut out. So you G-wagen owners, I know the thing is a pain in the *** to wash up top, but climb up there and check around the sun roof cut out closely. The two spots were really small, about the size of half a pencil eraser each, but I noticed them because the sun was hitting it just right and I thought it was tree sap or something until I tried to clean it off. The dealer fixed it to my satisfaction but a car that I bought new for $110k a year ago with only 5500 miles should not have had any of those issues, especially not rust. I can only think maybe the G has its sun roof cut in after the fact for something like that to happen?

I have an 05 G55 Grand Edition for 2 months. It had 2,500 miles on it and I sold it with 5,000 miles on it.

I had so many electrical problems.

Battery problems.
Wouldn't start in the cold.
Sun Roof wouldn't close.
On the passenger side, if I moved the seat back, it would do the opposite and move forward.
Windsheild wipers went out.
All my warning lights kept coming on.
Drivers side front and passengers side rear windows would not go up.

Personally I would tell you to stay away from the 05 and look for a used 06.

...........absolutely no problems here. Buying an 06 will be waste of money in my opinion since there are no updates in the 06. I can see buying an 07 and getting the DVD NAV etc, but not an 06. Electrical problems in a modern Mercedes are hit or miss. You just never know.

2005 SL65
window problems...

previously, i'd heard from SAs that window problems were endemic to the Gs, but hadn't heard any of the other issues.

after much consideration, i'm waiting a while longer to purchase one. too much going on to get it, then have to haggle with service about such problems.

If you plan on modifying it, I wouldn't wait, you don't want to miss the 55k engine which could go away soon, it's a beast and takes modification well.

Ted, should have mine back today, I'll let you know how she ended up.

..........There are no endemic problems with with 05 G55's. You are perfectly entitled to wait, but not because of some endemic electrical problem with 05 G55's.

.........iampd2005, conratulations on your mods. Nice to have a fellow modifies G55 around.
