Thinking about buying a G55 - some questions, first

I've always loved the look of the G-wagon & drove an '05 G55AMG yesterday. Absolutely fell in love! Questions before I do this: what is the Grand Edition vs. "regular" G55, I was told the '04 model year was the last one that included scheduled maintenance (what does a regular oil change/maintenance run on the '05s), what should I look at carefully before the plunge (any quirks on any particular year), does the year matter much, what about mileage & any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had been looking for an e55AMG wagon before I drove this G55! Love the sound, quickness, looks!!!

Also, what is a fair price & would you consider one purchased at auction? Thanks very much!

.............yes year matters. Do not buy an 04. The 04's don't have a s/c. Beyond that, there is no difference between grand and and non grand editions. it turns ot the grand edition was premature since the G55 is still in production.

2008 E63 wagon (1 of 62)
If I had the option of getting one of these, I would definitely get the supercharged one. Its a strange thing seeing such a large, heavy, beastly vehicle light up all 4 tires from a stop.

As for the maintenance, the services usually run about $400-600 depending on what service it is due for.

I too had been looking at the G55 for a couple years now, and finally bought a 2007 last Saturday. I have a few reasonably fast cars, but nothing compares to the experience you get with the G55. It feels like you are launching off a catapult while sitting inside a vault! The sound is incredible even though I haven't gone past 4500rpm yet(break-in period recommendation). Good luck with your search!

I have an '05 grand, I think the differences are the Grand gets you the side badges, the plaque in the middle with the build number, all that options that are the designo package (mats with colored piping, etc.) and the kick *** front grill.

My grand:

vs normal G55

Just got one myself!!!

Bettendorf, Iowa here....no one has one of these babies here that i know of..even the cop that pulled me over for a speeding ticket wanted to take a look inside ..so indulged him...hopefully he won't show for the hearing...

anywho...for those fortunate few that can afford an extravagance such as the G55 it is sooooooo worth it!!!!!!

if you don't buy the grand edition like myself the grill guard costs $1540 dealer said the install is $300...does that thing just bolt on or is there welding involved...if soo i will save the $300

Good question, I'll dig around on the front of it tonight to see if I can figure that out for you, I'm kind of thinking it just bolts on.

...........are you guys talking about just the grill guard? That is a dealer installed option on every W463 including G500. Yes it bolts right on. It has nothing to do with grand edition. Mine has it.

........taking my G55 drag racing today. Wish me luck.
