Opinions on G55 Ride Firmness

I am interested in the views of those who have the G55 on its ride firmness compared to the G500.

G55
I've had both the G500 and G55 (I still have the 55). The G500 ride was firm but not uncomfortable. The G55 ride is way too firm. I'm actually surprised that Mercedes released the G55 with its current set up. I have replaced the shocks on my G55 with G500 shocks and the ride is now perfect. Both vehicles use the same springs. I've also replaced the tires which have made a noticable difference.

what do you expect

Dont get me wrong, the g55 is a nice car. but a sticker price in excess of 80 grand for a car thats 28 years old at heart? Doesnt seem practical to me if your driving the g around the neighborhood. Solid Axles and an even older suspension setup, what do you expect? CL class type rides? This is meant to be an off road truck. Wanna drive on the road? get the ml55.

G55
CGMike 10,
You're in the wrong forum if you want to discuss "practical." I bought the G55 because I like it, and I have a ranch in Yampa, CO that is very dificult to get to in the winter. I had a Hummer H1 before the G but it was extremely unreliable. There is nothing practical about any car worth $80k. People buy them because they like them, and because they can. I had a ML55 and it didn't fit my needs and was poorly made in my opinion. I have modified my G to my liking with a Kleemann supercharger and extensive audio and video upgrades. Practical? No. Fun? Yes.

Upgrades

JME; care to elaborate on the upgrades to your '55? Thanks in advance.

My opinion

The views I expressed were solely my opinion. I do think the G is a very nice and refined looking car, but I think that the chassis should have been updated at some point to help justify its luxury car price. Just my opinion, dont mean to insult anyone
