Resonator delete?

Has anyone tried removing the resonators of a G55K? Wondering what that might do to the sound of the 55k engine.

So a friend a mine has a 03 NON Supercharged G55 like mine, his father-in law
was a welder that owned a muffler shop. I went with him just a few weeks ago
because we both had questions that were nowhere to be found on the net.

Results -

G55 both mufflers deleted but tips welded back on for a stock look,
OBNOXIOUSLY loud, sounded soo good but the sheer volume was a huge
problem, as was the loss of back pressure. You could instantly feel the car slug
off the line even at cruising. It was Horrible !! DON'T DO IT.

He was suggested not to mess with the res because of the interior drone.
(this we found on the net and his inlaw suggested strongly to leave them on)

So they added two tube style large MagnaFlow mufflers one on each side, welded into the stock
dual tips on each side. Results were awesome. Much better in sound then no muffler but still
an aggressive loud-er sound. Back pressure came back to a normal feel.

I just recently had him do the same work to my 03 G55 and im very happy with it.
At times its borderline loud going from 1,2,3,4, but when in 5th its perfect.
When you drop down it gives a very commanding growl that can be loud for
some but im not a very hard driver so for me its short and great. Ive had mine on for
2 or so weeks and i get compliments on sound almost every time i drive the truck.

On fire up its pretty awesome too !! My friend up the road took mine for a spin
and he has a 09 G55K and will be adding the same mufflers as me. He loved it.
I have no idea how much louder if any it might be on the G55K. It appears his
09 and my 03 have the identical stock mufflers and his sounded louder than mine
im sure to to his Kompressor. But when we would rev his 09 up you can hear the engine
more then the exhaust sound. He hates that which is why hes replacing with the Magnaflow.

I gotta ask - it sounds like you know

I have a 2004 G55AMG with a failing CAT - I found a good magnaflo replacement MagnaFlow Catalytic Converter - Universal-Fit (447206)

The question is - are the pieces in front of the main catalytic converters a resonator or another cat? The exhaust shop said they needed to be replaced too but I've found on a lot of other Mercedes that it is a resonator and it can be left in or deleted without problems.

Should I play the lottery on the O2 sensors as well?

Check back with the dealer and your vin, there is a 7 year warranty on the emissions systems and I know yours has passed since 04 but might not hurt to check if it was done before you and needed again within that 7 year time frame -

Resonator can be deleted however it will make the truck louder,
and you may experience drone, that loud humming inside the cabin.
Weird that it would go out, but worse case you can try to keep them
because they don't effect emissions.

I would DEF do the 02 while you're in there, actually if it were me
I would do the 02 before anything else if you're having emissions
issues.

Hello! Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but I'm looking for a way to make my 2017 G63 (W463) louder without breaking the bank. Can you advise if the Magnaflow tubes will be compatible with mine?

its all good !! But trust me DONT DO IT , it’s obnoxiously loud !! It’s horrible waste of money don’t do it don’t do it , spend the money for at least a decent set up with res attached and that has a muffler lol oh man it was bad . Spend the money and spring fulll system that even has a valve open close button . The pipes are so short and directly underneath you that you will be miserable . Trust me tried and proven by me with wasted money on a G55 and G63 . The MagnaFlow was just as bad .

i deleted the resonator from my E63 and it sounds great. Left the stock mufflers and just replaced resonator with straight pipes. Was awesome at WOT but maybe only 10% max louder at startup and normal driving I may try the same with the G63 and see if it works. Can easily be put back if it doesn’t work out.

I would totally and 100% agree and validate what MPOW33R is saying on resonator delete. Don’t do it on your G55, you will regret it. Additionally, your G55 will sound like a damn farm tractor, not the good!

Well what too do then

My magnaflow muffler went out on my 2010 G55 i loved the sound until you was able to hear the fiberglass rattling... I ended up just getting the same 14” magnaflow mufflers and now horribly quiet... they say it’s a break in period but I miss my old loud sound what am I too do
