What do you mean by "to maintain"? It's not any different than any other Mercedes Benz: oil change and regular maintenance.
I think it's actually less maintenance. Won't break as often i.e. abc, etc ...
It does consume a lot of gas though, yes.

In what way..........offroading? Yes. The G's have the worst fit/finish out of any benz made. I work on M-B(cars) every day and have had to repair about 5 G wagons and have come to despise them due to their horrible build designs, panel gaps and wavy panels. I guess that should be expected though since it is still just a 50ish year old military vehicle retrofitted with modern gizmos and niceties.
PS I would love to take a G55 out and beat the crap out of it in the mountains though.

I heard, that with time, rear door hinges squeak (due to weight of spare tire?).

I don't get how AMG decided to keep the 55 motor in the newer G55. Smart move on their side of course, but why just the G55? Can someone explain?
I love this car, and have been looking at them for a very long time.

I'd say it's because the engine, transmission and everything else work all together so well and so simply.

It doesn't get much better than North Carolinian white bread pronouncing "Designo" . Maybe I'm spoiled by one of my local salesmen, Igor, who, in a nice thick Russian accent, says things like "G Class is military vehicle"
Since when did the G change it's headlamps to "HID" ? It does NOT have "side air bags" either, the G only has frontal and head-curtain air bags.
That man does not know his product and should be selling Kia's instead.
