G-Class News: G55 AMG Dead in 2012, Special Editions Announced

My point was simple. The 6.3 engine is lacking compared to the AMG's 5.5 kompressor engines in some high altitude areas,e.g. WY,ID,NM,NV & CO. I've read about it on this forum, I heard it from the dealers, and I've tested it myself and came to the same conclusion, so with that being said......I have all the first hand knowledge I need. Period! I'm not a fan of this engine, especially if they drop it in the G for 2012-2013
Thanks for any input
when i asked whether the new AMG is coming 2013-2014, i was answered, maybe as early as late next year.
brand new engine they've been working on, 4.4L twin turbo with the 7 speed gearbox.
i didn't ask about exterior/interior change

...again, the "63" Naturally aspirated v8 engine you dislike will NOT be used in the G, or apparently in any new vehicles bearing the "63". MB is reportedly going to badge cars with the new biturbo 5.5 L engine, otherwise called the M157, as an AMG "63". So, just like in the new S63, the engine is a turbo v8, which will be a completely different experience at altitude than you felt in the naturally aspirated version.
The new engine will surpass the 55k in every way including considerable fuel efficiency while enjoying increased power as well.
Personally I prefer the modulation in the throttle response in supercharged vehicles over turbos, generally speaking, even if the turbo engines are "better".

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I like the idea of a special 4.4 TT in the G55. I like the Bluetec available in the G350? in Germany.
I agree with you on throttle response. So I guess it won't surpass the S/C engine in every way.

I found there to be a modicum of lag in the TT that is cleverly disguised by the 7 speed. You only miss one if you own both otherwise either is fun.
The new 5.4 TT is an AMG design whereas the M113 has either Mclaren (sp) or Cosworth in its design team.

the 500 (550 in the USA) will get the new 4.7 liter v8 twin turbo like E-CL-S-CLS class
maybe 7 g tronic PLUS for all the model, and 7g MCT for the amg, i think it would be possibile

Have you heard anything about it?

General question: Aren't the "special features" (black alcantara, leather dashboard, G55 embossed in gear lever, etc) standard in all G55s; meaning outside North America?

The V8 TT engine isn't proven and the diesel provides the torque and gas mileage off roaders need. The supercharged v8 is Reliable and more fun to drive than the 7 speed hunting transmission models, ESP when coupled with V8 turbot lag.
The V12 is beyond my pay scale.
