I thought they were going to stop production of the G wagon after 2011..?!!?

NO I have posted several time here. G production will not end the only thing that ends is there is no g55 for 2012 only a g550 then the AMG version of the G returns as a 2013 model with a new motor. the sl63 did the same thing a couple yrs ago when there was a motor change

The edition package is a ripoff. They should just include it with all G550s next year.
