2013 G 63 AMG
AMG will launch two variants of the G-Class: a V8 TT G55/63, and a v12 TT G65 as a limited edition. More may be revealed at the Dubai Motor Show next week...but that's just my guess. I have no first hand information about MB's plans for the show.

Talking about the interior of the car, the G-class is becoming more and more like today's man: capricious and soft.
The elevated oblique circles around the odometers are HIDEOUS. You find them in a $30K Jeep (nothing wrong with Jeep, I love them). The interior is becoming like any other Mercedes. I seriously hope it does not have massaging seats (!).
You don't buy a G-class because you want comfort or a touch screen navigation or a phone button that is easier to access. You buy a G-class because it is raw, solid and unique. The G-class is losing its rawness. It's becoming more and more a soccer-mom hauler.
Very sad.

I am not aware of any other vehicle in the Mercedes lineup today that appeals to such a large, wide and varied demographic people throughout the world as the G-class.
Within the G-class, there is something for everyone!
- G300 Professional: For armies and the outdoorsman. The W461 is strikingly handsome, durable, rugged and tough.
-G350: For customers who prefer a cleaner interior without all the bells and whistles. The W463 sports a different exterior as well as a different engine (diesel?)
-G500: For customers in the middle east who benefit from the more powerful engine and more options to doll up their vehicle.
-G550: For the luxury Mercedes customer in the USA who gets everything under the kitchen sink because mbusa needs the profit and mbusa knows most buyers won't take it off road.
-G55: Simply because Mercedes can. It's AMG and the G-class. The best of one world meets the best of another. Why not?
Unfortunately, we US customers are limited to either the ultra luxo G-class Benz or the ultra luxo G-class Benz with the AMG. The same demographic of customers overseas for the "lesser" G models are here too. If I had to guess, I would say they are flocking over to Fiat's Jeep and purchasing the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited.
But that's not all. Most Jeep buyers spend thousands on modifying their Jeeps to make them just as competent as any G class is "out of the box." So while a G300 Professional might run $80k here and cause sticker shock and shock ("THAT'S a Mercedes?"), a careful tallying of receipts from the heavily modifying Wrangler owner may just reach a price ceiling near that amount. Doesn't jeep stand for "just empty every pocket"?
Edit: I was referred to this thread through a thread in the non AMG W463 thread regarding a 2012 G550. My apologies for my rant/soapbox post.
I really don't like how mbusa has limited the full range of G-class offerings here in the US. But I digress...
