G55 vs G63
What are the additional electronics? The NAV / Command system is fairly tested out at this point.
DOes the 2013 still come with tracking feature?
thanks
I discussed this with my sales rep who explained that it is likely from the turbo chargers building up negative pressure (vs. the G55 supercharger). With such a high performance engine, this throttle lag and lack of immediate response is disappointing to say the least.
Was wondering if any of you have noticed or experienced this difference, and what - if anything - might be done about this.
Thanks.

A turbo, providing it has a free exhaust path builds positive until it reaches the preset pressure bleed off point.
At that point it relieves positive pressure.
But never should see negative or noticeable back pressure...
Turbos tend to have a bit of lag in spooling up as they are driven by exhaust pressure.
A properly sized turbo has no noticeable lag and should start building boost at low RPM.
So, I have the following questions:
1) How do you "flash the ECU," and is this something the dealership will do without voiding the warranty?
2) Are any of you with G63s experiencing this throttle lag?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for the feedback thus far.
The turbo lag exists on models with the new 5.5TT engine. Same on the SL63.
Turbo engines suck big *****.

The seven speed can handle power...it's in my CLK63 Black Series

Lag comes from the time it takes for the turbo to spool up.
Too large of a turbo and the more lag realized.
I would think that the G63 has properly sized turbos and should spool up under 2000 RPM with no real notice of lag.
I run twin Garrett T2's on my 1988 300CE M103-12V.
Starts spooling around 1700 rpm under power and no real lag.

Personally in respect to the G63/G55 discussion, after long deliberation I just chose to go with a 2011 G55 vs a G63. I have been contemplating both for a few months now for a new truck to replace my 07. As much as I would love to get the extra power, my old G55 has been treating me so well, I just trust it too much and I simply don't know enough about the G63 in terms of longevity. But I am sure at the end of the day the G63 is going to be just as dependable - if not even more....

I usually have an ipad / Iphone sitting in the same position as the new Nav screen is. But I normally navigate using google satellite maps, and it might be in the way for me in the G63.
In another G forum a member mentioned that when the W463 first came out everyone was worried about electronic gremlins and longevity issues, when the Benz updated in 2002, same worries etc. In the end every generation has held it promise of being a perfect Gelaendewagen...
The nannies in the G63 worry me a bit, and most importantly in terms of the mods I am planning on doing to my G55...a few other things as well, but knowing myself, within the next couple of years I won't be able to resist the call of the Bi-Turbo and experience that power.

I keep staring at you list of amazing cars, 71 280SL is on my bucket list, actually a couple of others as well
Thanks also for your input! If it can handle the Black Series, then the 7speed has to be pretty darn good! However what are your thoughts in terms of weight of the Gwagen and the torque the engines can produce?
I read that even in the E55s have torque management for the transmission. I imagine to prevent premature transmission failure. But then that might be a different transmission as well. Not sure

The 722.9 7G auto trans is capable of handling the stock G63 output.
Weistec has modified the 7G to support 1000HP and about the same torque.
The stock 5G can handle about 40% more torque, but the 7G is better on gas mileage...like you really care in a G !!!
I prefer the G55K over the G63 mostly because I like the "outdated" interior and dash layout. G63 is too "country club' for me....

Sure the G63 has a better ride and is clearly improved over the G55, but at the moment the G55 brings back more nostalgia, while the G63 is just the car that Kim K was driving two years ago.

BTW there was no 2012 G63
