Heavy on the throttle with the G55K and you move all three tons very quickly.
G63 even quicker....

Honestly, at the end of the day wouldn't you rather be in an AMG?
Stiggs, you said it all right there. You only live once, right?

Or it seems the best option might be to wait 6 mo. until a pre-owned G63 comes into your price range.
It maybe essentially the same exhaust after the cat. This true of the G5XX and the G55. Same p/n.Originally Posted by Luxurious
In the case of these two cars, yes, I think so. The G550 exhaust sounds much closer to an AMG exhaust than on other MB models, e.g. E550 vs E63, so you won't miss out on the signature AMG sound

I admire your taste, sir. If you buy, get a pre-owned one with a CPO. If you use the vehicle offroad as we do, one does not need the AMG version. The 113 engine maintained is a wonder. Windows and inner door latches are an issue. My 02 is worth what I paid for it used in 2007.Originally Posted by Milobeans22

If I could own only one MB it would be a G.
Thank you Grane... Your insight is very much appreciated. While I wouldn't rule out off road at some point, I'm a novice in that respect and would prob want to cut my teeth w another vehicle. Then again, maybe I should hone my skills in the best. Agreed, nothing like the G. My wife thinks I need to see a psychiatrist.

The new G interior is nice & pretty, but the "archaic" look of the previous G55s interior will always be a favorite of mine.Originally Posted by vcruiser

ExploreAgreed, while the interior is def an upgrade, it's not like the 2011's were horrible. They are elegantly simple.
gentlemen, i'm excited to share with you that i put a deposit down on a 2011 G55k, black/black, 12k miles. Trevor at exotic motors midwest in st. louis helped track one down in sunny CA. i don't officially own yet, but will sign papers upon delivery sometime next week. thank you all so much for your insight and expert opinion...i took it all to heart. i don't think it's fully sunk in yet....my dream truck awaits!
Thank you so much! Here are a couple pics from former owner:

I'm not I'm not a "G" owner but am in the market looking for one now. They both have good horse power,...... 500 (G55) vs 380-somthing(G550). BUT, the one thing that I have noticed after test driving both is... the AMG has very "harsh suspension damping", probably tuned more towards aggressive Autobahn driving. The G500 and G550 are both much, much softer sprung. My point in my humble opinion is,.......... driving with the AMG suspension, over a LONG PERIOD OF TIME, I can imagine it becoming annoying. the New York roads can be quite bumpy. You might want to test drive first and also, both models you're looking at both have GOOOOOOD exhaust notes !!!!! Good luck shopping.
