MY2018 or 2019 2nd Gen G63
I'm looking to trade my 14 G63 on a 17 because I want the last MY G63 before the wider updated 2nd generation G Class becomes available. However, I've read conflicting reports of what MY the new one will be - most say late 2017 launch as a MY18, but a few reports say 2018 launch as a MY19 to coincide with the 40 year anniversary. My 14 only has 17k miles and is good as new, so I want to be sure I have the last MY of the old school G. Any of you G insiders have any news that will help my decision?
Does the dealer lose any money when you use the AMA discount?

The 2017 ordering guide is out so its possible to order a 2017 as of now. I'd think MB would make a big deal of the last vintage year of the w463 and if the w464 were going to be a 2018 I would think we'd have more details than we do as of now. I suspect you'll have plenty of time to order your last year car; and there will probably be a bunch of w463 hitting the resale market as ppl upgrade to w464.
Not much help here but I'm surprised we're not seeing or hearing more about the next gen Gwagen.
I'm thinking about getting the v12 g65 given how rare they will be over time.

FWIW, a guy on Fchat says he's been told by someone in the know the 2017 will be the final year of the w463. But, I agree that the lack of info on the w464 makes me think it's quite a bit further out than next fall as well.
I don't want to jump the gun, but I'm concerned that my 14 will take another $5-10k drop when the 17s start trickling in and I have a buyer for my truck (my dealer is doing a courtesy trade). If I do wait and find out that MY18 will be the final year, then, this time next year, my 14 will take another MY depreciation hit and my 14's warranty will be nearly up - I'm guessing I'll lose $20-25k from the my current selling price vs waiting until next October, so I'll likely just roll the dice.
Thought about the G65 as well, but all my keeper cars are cars I love - I wouldn't buy a car just because of the appreciation potential. Although I haven't driven a 65, I've been in one and wasn't in love (like most people) - add in the extra $80k I'll stick with the 63.

All about the sound for me, and I like the V8 better. I have yet to read a comparison that favors the G65 over the G63. Even the guy who had the G65 I got a ride in said he bought his so he look down upon us poor G63 folk, but that he liked the V8 better.

As for the 65, I haven't met one person that prefers it in the G. I would prefer it in the S but the G sounds drives and performs better in a 63. By the way I have a 16 and the little tweaks in the suspension and trimmings is a nice improvement from the 13-15 models. You will like it.

i wouldn't be surprised if benz skipped a year in production. Think about it they did it in 2008 and 2012 both times the following year was some type of facelift.

My dealer just forwarded MSRP for the MY17 G-Class:
G550: $122,400
AMG G63: $141,400
AMG G65: $220,400
It sounds like pricing for the options, including the new Manufaktur leather choices isn't available yet.
AFAIK, there's no HP increase going from a 2016 to a 2017 for the G550 or G63. The significant differences this year compared to 2016 are updated nav with a larger display and a bunch of new interior choices, mostly related to color options. There are also a few new exterior color choices. A copy of the 2017 dealer ordering guide, without pricing info, has been posted in another thread. It would probably make sense to continue discussion of 2017's in that thread.
I also received an updated copy of the DOG for the 2017's. They list the torque for the G63 as 561 lb ft for 2017, which is a whopping 1 more than last year. Otherwise, HP and torque numbers are the same for the G550, G63, and G65. The G550 4x4 squared has the same engine as the G550.

in horse power.

So does the updated NTG 5.1 that will be in the 2017s use the same screen and the same control knob on the center console that the 2016s (and older) have? I would have thought they would update everything. I will say that the pictures they're using in the 2017 configurator on the MBUSA site still show the old control knob and the screen doesn't seem bigger, but it's not clear if they just didn't have updated photos.

I posted some pics here from online digging.
Same exact controller as before.

Am getting a confirmation from a mb dealer now. It seems strange they would upgrade nav right before a complete refresh?

Well, I drove my 2016 G550 to the dealer and got into the 2017 G63 a few minutes later to take it for a test drive. The screen is definitely bigger, mostly wider rather than taller.
