Reasons someone might prefer a G55 over the newer G63.
As a recent new owner of a 2011 G55 in non-modified condition, I am getting to love my new toy. Still working out some small kinks of course. Plan to keep it for a long time. My question is, other than cost, are there reasons owners would prefer this older model over the newer, plusher, more up to date and more powerful one?

New G's usually mean less miles and better overall condition. Less rust, more maintenance records (possibly dealership records), etc.
The sound of the 2 are different, so some may prefer one over the other.
Some people only want the latest and greatest, so anything less than a 63 will not do.
Some people like the TT motor better than the Supercharged motor. All personal preference here.
The power difference between the 2 isn't that much, but both can be modified pretty easily to make a lot more, and similar power levels.
The newer/plusher interior is a big draw for a lot of people. I personally like the old interior better than the new one, but I may be in the minority here.
The exterior updates do make the 63's look more modern, which is why a lot of people update the look of their older G's to look newer. I like the more classic looking exterior, but again may be in the minority.
I think overall the G55's and G63's are very similar, both offer similar levels of performance, driver experience, fun factor, off-road worthiness, etc. The rest is really all personal preference (and possibly overall budget, but probably not that much different if you're looking for a 75k vs 95k car)
Congrats on your purchase and glad you're happy with your last year M113k G. It's for sure to be a classic in the coming year and will provide a lot of smiles per gallon - the key part of it all.

Shiann,
From what research I did prior to buying my G55, I think you are spot on with your comments. I, like you, also prefer the more "classic" and less "flashy" interior of the G55. Maybe it's because I am in my late 50's. Of course, new tech is useful in the G63. I doubt there's much real "turbolag", but I've never driven a G63.

I looked at both. But when I found a 2011 G55 with only 5,000 miles and only 10 miles from by home I had to go for it. I like the engine in the G55. It is the same engine that is in my 2005 SL55. The SL is my all time favorite car, and has been completely trouble free. I’m sure that the G63 is a very nice truck as well. It might be my old age (74) but I do like the G55 better than the G63

I do not own either (G55 or G63) but I would have to agree. Kinda reminds me of the E55/E63, and CL55(215) vs CL 550(216). Something about the 55s that I just like.

I myself have the G55 also over the G63. I just wanted the more rugged and basic 55 motor and trans that are bulletproof. I actually did the 4x4 kit on it also just because.
