G55 cabriolet
How much is the G55 Cabriolet in Europe and how much would it cost to federalize in the US? I know Europa has a near new G500 Cabriolet for around 150 and was wondering how much mark up is in this price?

Like I alluded to in the other forum...
G55 Cabs aren't available yet AFAIK. Europa is trying to convince AMG to build some 55 Cabs for the US market but so far they haven't been very successful.
And I'll ask you again... Where have you seen a G55 Cab?

The only one I have seen is one a broker in Germany has been sending me pictures of. Said it was made for an important client of MB but as far as I can tell, it could just as easily be a G500 cab. He said it is not a kompressor but is an 04 G55 cab.

AMG will still build you a G55 cab with the old naturally aspirated engine (you can download their Manufaktur price list from the AMG web site), the issue is whether they will product anything but LWB versions with the Kompressor engine. The issue revolves around the work required to re-tune the electronics for the increased power and braking, something which has only been done for the LWB so far.

The my contact at AMG just got back to me saying that a Kompressor version of the G-Class cabriolet will not be available either ex-factory nor as an AMG upgrade in Affalterbach. The only option still available is for a custom ordered G55 Cabriolet using the previous naturally aspirated engine (upgrade costs 18,000 euros from base G500 cabriolet). You can double check this with Europa, but this is straight from the horse's mouth.

I am ordering a regular G500 cabriolet this week to import to the US. I don't want the EPA/DOT problems that could come with the G55 upgrade. It would be nice to have but no big deal for me. The car will be unique here anyway. The Euro/Dollar exchange rate is terrible for me at this time though. The car will be 100kUS (77kEuros) before conversion and shipping. I wish I had the chance to drive one but no such luck. Anyone had first hand experience? Either way I am sure it will be a great truck.

Jeff- I am really interested in ordering a new G500 cab as well. I have talked to Russ at Europa, but was wondering if you could recommend your broker in Germany. Saw some for sale in Saudi Arabia and Egypt...just have no clue as to what the easiest/cheapest way to import this car. Any advice?
