Looking at purchase 2011 g55 German version - should I walk away
I test drove a 2011 g55 with 100km / 60k miles and it seemed nice until I was getting on the highway. I pushed it hard going into the redline and hit what felt like a rev Limiter . Seemed like the tranny was gone. I pulled over given it would not engage. Once i turned off and on it worked again.
is this normal? If not is this a common issues?
should I walk? The vehicle is in great condition and seems to be fully loaded.
would love some advice
I am in netherlands so it’s normal to import used cars from Germany

There is very little traffic on this forum section. The normal W463 forum has a lot more action, so you will get more eyes over there.
Normal operation when hitting the redline will be for the transmission to shift to the next gear. From all of my highway pulls, the transition up the gears is actually pretty quick (relatively for an auto trans designed 30+ years ago). The M113k engine continues to pull hard through the gears, but I usually left off after 1 or 2 shifts as that is already exceeding the speed limit by a lot.
If this G was sent into a limp mode or the transmission fell into neutral or the like, then something is wrong and it needs to be checked out. Possibly a TC issue, but not something that I have experienced. I haven't heard of this happening yet so don't think it is a common problem with the M113k/722.6 trans, or the TC in general.
