2025 AMG G 63 SUV /// 2025 AMG GT 63 S E Performance 4 Door Coupé
Is the G63 a “real” AMG?
What qualifies as a real AMG? Does it have to be an in-house creation? Do the G63 or S63 E count as AMG’s?
I ask these questions because of the Mercedes App.
My G63 has a generic Mercedes background, while my GT63 has a full blown Affalterbach background.
Why do you think this is??
Cheers
(FYI the GT has such little indicated range because the car literally has 20km on it, just picked it up)
The general understanding of a "real" AMG is one that has a hand built engine, which used to be 63 and up and 45 and up, but the lines are blurring. The W206 C43 has a hand built engine now and as things go fully electric, what will define a true AMG in the future?
The app background is some kind of a bug. I used to have the Affalterbach background for my 2019 C63S Coupe, but after an update a couple of years ago it suddenly disappeared. Along with the car showing up as model 2021 in the app when it is a 2019. I've opened several tickets with customer support and they still haven't fixed it. The pictures of the car and the background comes from a general Mercedes rendering services. It basically dynamically renders a picture of your exact car. This has never been fully reliable. When the app was first released, I got a generic picture of a car under a car cover. They eventually fixed that and my actual car started to show up. It seems to be mostly incompetent software developers, rather than a question of what is a real AMG.
The only thing I would think is that the G63 is a "Mercedes" G63. The GT63, is an AMG GT63. it's not a "Mercedes" on any paper since it's built by the boys in Affalterbach. I could be totally wrong lol
