Looking for Advice on Undertaking a Restoration Vehicle

All,

I'm interested in buying a classic MB to do a restoration on. I've never done one before but have always wanted to. Since this will be my first, I wanted to get some opinions from those who have done so before.

Which model is the best to go for in terms of:

1. Parts availability (engine/tranny in particular)
2. Cost
3. Overall value upon completion
4. Dependability
5. Engine type
6. Transmission type

I would prefer a convertible model and one that runs leaving mostly body and interior work for me to do.

A budget would be up to a max of $25k total including initial buy and restoration work.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have done a few. Sls in 60s is a good start. So are the 108s and 109s. But I guess the question begins by which one do you prefer??

Find the best and most expensive model you can afford. There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes.
