VIN Information

Every time I try to look up information on a VIN decoder it says that I need 17 numbers. The car is a 1978 450 SL and the VIN is 10704412045703. Where can I get info from?

2004.7 C180 Kompressor, BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro LT, Mercedes S, Cesna 152.
VIN numbers with 17 digits came into effect worldwide in
1981, the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Highway_Traffic_Safety_Administration of the United States standardized the format.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number#cite_note-nhtsa1-1 It required all over-the-road-vehicles sold to contain a 17-character VIN, which does not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0).
There are vehicle history services in several countries that can help potential car owners use VINs to find lemons and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_title_branding. See the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Used_car article for a list of countries where this service is available.
