Asking for a Friend's 280c 1974
Friend's 74 was dripping fuel [gas] from the 2 tank hoses. They both seemed to be seeping and dripping on the floor.
We drained the tank and I replaced both hose sections and clamps. Leak stopped - for now.
Question relates to the larger fuel supply line at the tank. It's a 1/2' [or 12mm?] tube, but the fuel line going to the front is a 3/8" [tank appears original, but fuel line look newer and stainless].
The hose section that connected those 2 was about 3" long but appeared to be a dual sized reducing hose, from 1/2 to 3/8. Is this possible? The ID of the hose definitely looked like it had a step-down inside it.
Also, the 3/8" pipe was fit INSIDE the 1/2" tank outlet pipe. Is correct? There's a long end of the 3/8" ahead of the clamp "rib", so it looks like it was designed to fit that way.
For now, I've got a new section of 1/2" fuel hose clamped to the tank side, and I built up the 3/8" line using some JB Weld Steel Stick so I had a good OD to clamp the hose to.
Not sure if that is a long-term solution?
Is that step-down hose fitting something that is still available as a replacement? I got a screen grab that MAY show what I'm looking for. [#15?]

If your friend's 200c W114, I think the part number in the photo is A1114761526.
The part number of the band is A0059970190.
Both probably have a list price of about $5.00 and at least MB in Germany has a lot of them in stock.

Do you happen to also know if the metal fuel pipe actually "telescopes" into the tank nipple, and then this hose attaches to both.
The way this one was when I pulled apart the leaky hose adapter, the feed pipe (~3/8" diameter) was actually inserted into the tank nipple (~1/2"), by about 2 full inches.
Right now, I've got the leak stopped with a new STRAIGHT 1/2" hose section connecting the pipe to the tank, but I needed to build-up the 3/8" pipe diameter with some Qwik Steel putty epoxy, in order for the 1/2" hose to clamp properly to it.
I'd rather replace that with a more permanent fix, as I don't want my friend to experience any fuel leaks, since he drives his car very rarely and it sits in his garage the rest of the time.
Thanks!
