Dummy light comes on, battery is taking a charge. 12.3 volts prior to start; 14.3 volts engine running. I can't find any info on possible causes.

I went for a run, yesterday. Voltage was about 12.4 prior to starting. It went to about 11.5 while cranking, and went to 14.3 while running. The light did not come on, this time, while I was out.

I have had this car about eight years, and don't know the age of the alternator. I'm trying to figure if the problem is with the alternator or the key switch.

My guess is It they would provide power to both sides of the battery light. If the power to either side of the lamp becomes lower than the other, the lamp should light. In my case, the lamp just glowed.

I'll just make short runs with the car until I can get a better idea of where the problem could ne.

Thanks for your reply.
