Smoke looks blueish which would mean Engine OIL in Combustion chamber when running.
Which means could be one or more of following:
Piston rings
Piston and or bore
Valve guides leaking

Possible it may have PCV that blows back into intake which could cause this if excessive oil PCV flow.

IF WHITE smoke that is coolant and tends to smell "sweet" like coolant.
IF BLACK smoke then unburned fuel which means running rich.

Nice looking car - Might not be my color but yeah those are good cars

Should be simple for mechanic to check.

Pull spark plug or two and check color - My guess is either piston rings or Valve guides.

Does it smoke more on startup after sitting overnight = Valve guides
OR the smoke is consistent - maybe a bit more when cold but as it heats up reduces but still there = Rings/bore

Good Luck and keep her on the road.

PS shifting issues could be an old clutch that needs to be replaced, adjusted, etc....
Do you know when last replaced?
Where is pedal when clutch does start to bite

ADDED AFTER:
I think I see the old OIL BATH air filter - Have it checked and ensure not overfilled as that could cause smoking too.
