7 Speed Tran -Fuel Efficient??
Some Mercedes models now offer a 7 speed automatic. To me, it seems that this would increase fuel economy with the engine more often to be running at the correct speed. Is this an accurate assumption? Any thoughts to this evolution of transmissions?

Yes the new 7G-Tronic transmission offers increased fuel economy, better performance, and an all around smoother ride. You really have to drive a E500 with a 5 spd and then a E500 with a 7G to appreciate it.
Some people have reported fuel saving my a couple mpg. This was enough to persuade me to get the E350 and trade the E320 in. So far I have noticed better fuel economy.
