DaimlerChrysler AG rose $1.13 to $50.50 on the possibility of more executive change

A German newspaper reported that Eckhard Cordes, head of DaimlerChrysler AG's Mercedes Car Group may leave by September. The report, which the company refused to comment on, comes after Cordes' sale last week of $4.4 million in DaimlerChrysler shares. DaimlerChrysler's CEO, Juergen Schrempp, said last Thursday he would step down at the end of the year.

Yes. Schrempp's leaving is indeed good for the company. He is being replaced by Dieter Zetsche (current head of the Chrysler Division), which is the suspected reason for Cordes resignation.

I hope Herr Zetsche has the goal of restoring the quality image to the entire company.

Mercedes may drop goal to top quality survey, chief says

Reuters

BARCELONA - DaimlerChrysler is debating whether to abandon its goal to place its Mercedes-Benz brand first in the prestigious J.D. Power and Associates car quality survey, Mercedes chief Eckhard Cordes said on Friday.

"We are carefully analysing whether this is a reasonable goal or not, and then we will answer the question once we have finished our analysis," he told reporters on the sidelines of an industry conference here.
