Blown AMG Motors

...Now that this esteemed board, and more than a few unhappy M3 owners are painfully aware of with regard to engine reliability, has anyone heard of or experienced a bonified failure of any AMG(only) engine? This questions includes the entire lineup, including the V6. An ECU problem or a hot wire metering problem, etc. doesn't count.
Please do not include problems that did not require a major teardown and/or replacement of internal parts requiring a partial teardown of the block. I suspect the results won't reveal any nasty surprises.

( I'm wracked with guilt for the numerous mindless posts in order to boost my membership rating, so I thought I'd post something that would not be filed in the "off topic" folder....)

Brian: I too have been posting mindlessly, though not at your rate... I don't have too much to say, but you deserve at least one reply...

My enthusiastic MB service manager and I had a conversation about blown cylinder heads and AMG a couple of months ago, just for the heck of it. He told me that he had a customer with a 1997 C36, which was an I-6, who blew the back 2 heads off of the block, like the old 300E problem, I guess. I'm just speculating, but maybe that's why MB went to the beast C43 for 1998? I dunno.

I know of only one engine that has failed

They immediately addressed the problem and replaced the engine. Had another one sent from Germany and installed here. The owner was never quite happy after that nor would I be. Other than that I have heard lots more accolades than problems. Its a beast.

C200 Kompressor
In the german edition of Auto Motor und Sport they made a test of several "super cars", and among these were the SL 55 AMG. During the top speed tests the compressor belt broke at 325 km/h (not a major breakdown, but still).
