P.S. Appologies to the car Gals on here who do know what an AMG is and appreciate why it is special. To those of you, I am attracted to you, your knowledge and your mind. If you can drive too, then we should meet.

Being a "Chick" here I would have to say if all you are interested in is attracting them by the car you drive than yeah get an SL AMG, but it is going to take more than just a car to keep them! Unless she is superficial and in that case she is not worth keeping to begin with!
BTW not all girls are ignorant when it comes to AMG's
Good luck with your chick magnet hunt.

well AS a chick.. for 1. i know what amg is lol. and 2. convertables are cool... for chicks. and of course for guys too but imo: when a guy is riding top down and blasting songs TRYING to impress the girls, that turns out to be a turn off. (desperate). i also vote for sl cl & clk. (im not a fan of slk).. and of course a mclaren haha.
and yep irish you're right.. despite it all it takes WAY more than a good looking car to really impress a really lady... unless your a golddigger or groupie.

Using a car to attract chicks is way over rated.
In Europe and E Europe Porsche and MB convertibles attract hot ones - only because they know you can pay for dinner and have a decent job.
In N America generally only skanks go for cars - my buddy bought a Porsche 997 convertible and said it was a complete failure. Attracted all the kinds of girls he didn't want and was a turn off to the ones he did because they thought he was a player out for one thing.
If you want the skanks SL is the way to go. Best to get some 22in chrome wheels on it !

If all you want to do is attract them, you don't need a Mercedes. All you need to do is buy a bulldog and take it for a walk. They're so damn ugly they're cute, and a lot of women can't resist coming over to see them.

1970 250CE (euro version)
My 1970 250CE seems to work well... At least when I'm not sitting in it. Haha.
See, the problem with buying a brand new car as a "chick-magnet" is that most of us can't afford many of the new cars that actually attract women. A current shape SL, or even SLK is usually a very expensive purchase, and if you buy a used one to soften the blow, you might end up besieged with repair costs.
But if you buy an OLDMercedes, (the older the better) then you're bound to get noticed. You see, most women that are attracted to flashy cars won't know the difference between a Mercedes-Benz and a Lexus, so it won't matter which kind of "chick-magnet" car you buy as long as it's expensive.
SO with that being said, please review the following equation.
"Flashy or Noticeable" car = Chick Magnet
New "Noticeable car = EXPENSIVE
Old Cars (30 years and up) ALWAYS stand out.
A neat looking old car will always attract attention, and they're cheap to buy and maintain. WIN WIN.
That being said.... you all need to go out and buy W114/W115 Benzes so that there will be enough people on here for them to start a W114/115 forum. Now you see my true motive, bwa ha ha ha!

Actually, Jive, you may be onto something. Young ladies love my 380. e.g. parking in south OC a while ago and blacked out BMW (ugly imho) pulls next to me and a young thirties couple gets out. The girl goes gaga over the SL and the boyfriend is totally annoyed. Old guys rule!

crb49...lovely SL...I'm looking now for a 450sl as my next project car. I have to agree, a classic like a 380sl or 450sl in great condition will always get looks and much respect from me.
Back in '79, my pops had a black 450sl and he had the interior changed to a dark red...I still get a chubby thinking about how sexy that car was...hoping to relive that feeling with this project car.

Thanks AMGfan. They truly are iconic cars. And black over red would be absolutely stunning. (I'm a little partial) Good luck with the chase.

Still trying to do my due diligence with regard to what this project will entail (i.e. talking to classic car mechanics and lurking various classic car website forums)...

1970 250CE (euro version)
Oh that white SL was a beauty!! I'm actually pretty thrilled with my 250CE for a number of reasons. I only paid $3,600 (not a typo) for her and I have less than $5,000 spent so far. From what I can tell I might have one of the only european 250CE's in the US. For those of you not familiar with this car, the American version of the 250CE (good luck finding ANY version of a 250CE) had the ugly safety bumpers, different headlights, lots of turn signals, different tailights, headrests, and a different engine entirely. The American version was actually a 2.8L engine that was choked to death with smog controls.
By contrast, my car was originally sold in Italy to a someone who took it straight to Saudi Arabia where it stayed until about 2000. Then someone who worked for the DoD bought it and took it with him to Germany until 2006 when he brought it back to Tucson, Arizona. I bought it from him. The car was running (badly) when I got her, and I've done quite a bit to get her in shape.
Whats still left to do?
-new shocks and springs front and rear
-replace the right rear window track
-find a way to wake the sunroof from its slumber
-repaint her in the original color
-fix the clock
-find a Becker stereo that I don't have to take a loan out to buy
-install said stereo
-fix the PRNDSL indicator on the instrument panel
-fix the kickdown switch
-repaint the trunk
-coax the AC into blowing cold
-have a beer, or nine
